State Councilor Wang Yong met with Lesotho's Prime Minister Motsoahae Thomas Thabane in Maseru, Lesotho, on Dec 13.

Wang said China-Lesotho relations have maintained a stable and positive momentum of development in recent years. The two sides respect each other, treat each other equally, so the political mutual trust has gradually increased.

Last year Thabane attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and visited China. President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang met and held talks with the prime minister individually. Leaders of the two countries reached broad consensus, which injected strong impetus to bilateral cooperation, Wang said.

China always treats Lesotho as a sincere friend and partner, and appreciates that Lesotho adheres to the one-China principle, Wang noted. China is willing to strengthen the alignment of respective development strategies under the frameworks of FOCAC and the Belt and Road Initiative. China will also expand practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges with Lesotho, and safeguard common interests of developing countries in international affairs.

Wang said he believes the bilateral relations will achieve more results with efforts from the two sides.

Thabane said the current China-Lesotho relations are at their best in history. He appreciated China for the strong support and its selfless aid to the social economic development of his country. Lesotho will continue to abide by the one-China principle, strengthen political mutual trust, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, Thabane said.

During his visit, the state councilor presided over a symposium for Chinese enterprises in Africa. He also visited Lesotho's national convention centre aided by China.
